a partnership between Montenay Power Corp. and Miami-Dade County
The Miami-Dade Resources Recovery Facility is a partnership between Miami-Dade County and Montenay Power Corp. In 1985, Miami-Dade County awarded Montenay Power a long term operating and maintenance contract for the facility. County representatives maintain offices on-site and there is daily interaction between the partners. In addition to its partnership with the County, Montenay has established partnerships with several additional organizations. During the processing of garbage and trash, Montenay recovers ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Through its partnership with NAMCO, an on-site metals processing company, the recovered metals are processed and sold back to the marketplace as shredded scrap metals. Montenay and NAMCO recover and recycle approximately 30,000 tons of steel and 3,500 tons of aluminum per year.

The biomass generated by the trash processing system is not only utilized by the facility but also by Okeelanta Cogeneration Plant and Ridge Energy. The biomass from the Miami-Dade Resource Recovery Facility is shipped to Okeelanta to be used in conjunction with bagasse in order to generate electricity.

Ridge Energy, a waste recycling facility, also utilizes biomass from Montenay for combustion. The biomass is combined with other wood wastes and shredded tires to produce fuel for burning.
